September 06 What kind of world do we live in?What kind of world do we live in when the $7/hr receptionist at the doctors office gets to determine your healthcare provider? I'm so pissed and all i can do is write this damn blog. Here's the situation. I'm new to town with three kids 11,7,and 7mo. I ask around to get references for a pediatrician. I'm referred by several people in the area to GT Pediatrics so I call to set an appointment with a particular doctor and I'm told he wasn't excepting new patients but I could get my child in to see the new doctor. Since I was running behind on having the babies immunizations done since the recent move I wanted to do it soon so i said o.k. I was not told that once I saw this doctor i would not be able to have my child seen by any other doctor in that practice. After my sister delivered her baby in the hospital and automatically was put with the dr. that i originally had try to get my children in with I had her ask the dr why he wouldn't accept new patients and he told her that he was and to have me contact his nurse to get in with him, so i did. At that point when I asked to make an appointment and said that one of my children had been seen there only once for a set of routine shots I was told that even though I was dissatisfied with the care of the dr we were put with that their policy was not to switch a patient within the practice. So, I asked to talk with someone and I explained the situation. Once I received a return phone call about the matter, I was told that the dr we had seen the one time was made aware of the situation and he said if i was not happy with the care i received that instead of transferring my child's paperwork to his "partner" he'd rather I take my child elsewhere for care.
I was not happy with that answer and felt that it was not only very unethical to send us down the road but very unprofessional to send business for his supposed "college's" away without concern. So I went up there to make an appointment with the other dr. and was told that I may not do so once the nurse that I had spoke with on the phone found out that I was the one she had spoken to on the phone. She said that both dr.'s in question were aware of the situation and they were both fine with sending me away. I was told that my infant child was an "established" patient since he'd been there once. And other members of my family could see dr.'s in that practice since they'd not been there before but my baby would have to see the fucking quack that I didn't like or go to another practice that it was not possible to have all my children be with the same pediatrician. So after trying very calmly to get my questions answered to make sure I was not jumping to conclusions or that I could not reason with someone in person I was treated very unfairly and will do everything in my power to make sure that no one else has to be treated in the same manner. People work to hard and put out too much money on health insurance to be treated like shit by strangers that hold no value in their care. Please know that this is the short version of the events and I tried very hard and carried myself with grace and kept my dignity and composure in the situation even though I could have been very irrational and mouthy given the circumstances I was dealing with. So, I will say to anyone that will listen if you are tired of people getting away with treating you like shit and having no concern for your well-being "Do not" give your business or money to Georgetown Pediatrics & Internal medicine in Pawleys Island, SC. If you would like to know a little about the person who you are reading about. I'm the Girl Scout Leader in this area and volunteer many hours to the children in this community as well as my own. I say to any of the doctors or anyone who knows the dr.s of this particular practice, if this is your way of taking care of your community then you are doing a very shitty job and I will make sure that everyone within earshot hears from this woman scorned!~! So to every doctor that doesnt take care of the children in their community due to a implemented policy or tries to railroad someone into seeing a dr that is not up to par then I say "F*ck you & the Mercedes you rode in on".
